Wildcats Drop Early Season Test vs. Butler

Better late than never, here are the men’s basketball highlights from last week’s loss to Butler.

Stephen Woldenberg and Adam Seidel were on the call.

1st Half

Freshman Drew Crawford got things started off on the right foot with a huge block right off of the tip

Butler stormed ahead, however, aided by Avery Jukes’ and one play.

Zach Hahn hit several threes to keep Butler rolling

Mike Capocci hit this layup with the assist from Luka Mirkovic

2nd Half

Butler broke the game open early on in the first half, taking a double digit lead on this disputable putback by forward Matt Howard, who led the Butler charge.

Shelvin Mack kept the Bulldogs rolling with a three of his own.

Butler added some salt to the wound, going ahead by 20 points on two threes by Avery Jukes. Still, the ‘Cats showed some life with this layup by center Kyle Rowley

Sophomore forward John Shurna helped the ‘Cats chip away at the lead, and this three by the other freshman, Alex Marcotullio, who scored the first points of his college career.

The Northwestern offensive woes continued, however, as the ‘Cats couldn’t convert on several turnover opportunities, turned the ball over, and missed shots as the Bulldogs’ essentially took Juice Thompson out of the game, shutting down the Northwestern offense. The Butler defense and transition game was at its best with this steal by Shelvin Mack and finish by Gordon Hayward.

The Wildcats finally showed some life with about four miutes to go in the game, as Mike Capocci found John Shurna for this bucket, who did his best to keep the ‘Cats in this game.

Juice Thompson followed suit, finally finding his touch in the second half to put a some pressure on the Bulldogs.

 

Still, Butler refused to let up, putting the game away with about two minutes to go behind the efforts of Shelvin Mack and Zach Hahn, along with the rest of the squad, getting the win, 67-54.
